I'm so happy you're here!

Hi, I’m Kisha, the creator behind Phonics to Fluency and the Primary Essentials membership. I’m a former classroom teacher, reading interventionist, and online educator who cares deeply about the parts of teaching that shape the whole day—classroom flow, student behavior, emotional support, and strong relationships. I created Primary Essentials to give PreK-2 teachers practical tools for the real day-to-day needs that often are not fully covered in curriculum, college courses, or staff meetings. My goal is to help you feel more supported with resources that make your classroom feel calmer, more connected, and more manageable.

A Little More About Me

How I got here

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Coastal Carolina University in 2012 and later completed my master’s degree in Instructional Technology in 2015.

I also hold an online teaching certification, TESOL certification, and I’m a South Carolina Read to Succeed Literacy Teacher.

I spent five years in the traditional classroom teaching 3rd and 5th grade, followed by three years as a reading interventionist, and later taught and tutored online.

No matter the setting, my strengths were always the parts of teaching that shape the whole day—classroom management, relationship-building, and giving students the support they need to grow.

That experience is what led me to create Primary Essentials as a place for practical resources that help teachers with the real day-to-day needs of PreK-2 classrooms.

Why I do this

My first year teaching was hard. I was constantly going over the time I had planned for centers, reading, and just about every subject.

We were behind where my grade level team was, and I felt like I could never catch up. I did not feel like I had clear direction when it came to managing the classroom in a way that kept the day moving and helped students stay on track.

That summer, I made it my mission to learn everything I could about classroom management. I read blogs, searched Pinterest, sat in other teachers’ classrooms, and paid close attention to the systems that helped things run better.

The more I learned, the more I was able to build systems of my own. That is what I’m sharing inside Primary Essentials, because I want you to have the tools to build a calmer classroom, stronger routines, and a school day that works better for both you and your students.

The academic part matters, but you cannot teach in the middle of chaos.

My Promise to You

The resources inside this membership come from a teacher who understands that trying to teach through chaos can wear you down fast. It affects your mental load, it can make your classroom look out of control to admin, and it can make the job feel miserable.

I know that kind of stress is real, and I do not take it lightly. I left the classroom for medical reasons after having two children 13 months apart.

Later, when my kids reached school age, the pandemic hit and our family chose to homeschool. For a long time, I held back from creating classroom management resources because I knew some people would judge my experience based only on my pre-pandemic classroom years.

But the truth is, these systems have now been used successfully by hundreds of teachers in today’s classrooms.

They are classroom-tested and approved over and over again.

My promise to you is that the resources inside Primary Essentials will be practical, purposeful, and built to help with the part of teaching that has to come first.

You cannot teach well in the middle of chaos, and you should not have to figure all of that out on your own.
